Welcome to the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) High School Supplement Energy Matters A Web-based Exploration of Energy Today and Tomorrow As high school educators, you face a unique charge in your classrooms across Wisconsin. Not only are you responsible for meeting state academic standards, preparing students to enter universities and technical schools, and covering a wide range of required coursework for the high school graduate, but you are also positioned to prepare youth to join the adult world. Your guidance can help shape teens into responsible consumers, participatory citizens, and future leaders. A daunting task! The mission of KEEP is to improve and increase energy education in Wisconsin. With Energy Matters, KEEP provides high school educators with the resources to add sophisticated energy content to their repertoire of teaching. Teachers, energy professionals, and curriculum experts have worked together to produce a comprehensive clearinghouse for energy topics. Energy Matters is divided into five units: Current Issues, Careers, Energy Lifestyles, Transportation, and Special Topics. Each unit includes relevant topics for today's high school educator and student. These topics are comprised of a complete set of resources for educators. We have chosen only the best; everything from background materials, classroom ideas, and assessment strategies has been reviewed by content experts to ensure a concise, quality listing. The topics are cross-referenced and correlated to state academic standards. To help you incorporate energy into your curriculum, a Study Guide has been developed for you to use with your students. View the Issue Investigation Guide now. KEEP looking! Energy Matters is far from complete! The dynamic nature of energy and the high school classroom demand an ongoing development process. New Web sites, hot topics, and fresh challenges require constant attention and update. KEEP will continue to update these units, so be sure to hit "REFRESH" each time you come to visit to get the latest additions. Energy Matters has been developed with the support of the Energy Center of Wisconsin and four of the major energy providers of Wisconsin: Madison Gas & Electric, We Energies, Xcel Energy, and Wisconsin Public Service Corporation. KEEP says "thank you" to these dedicated organizations and the following individuals: Andrea Minniear, Ron Orman, Kelly Zagrzebski, Jodi Hensel, John Ness, and Jim Jenson for their outstanding contributions to this effort. A fantastic roster of secondary educators also participated in the development of Energy Matters. These teachers included Andi Winkle, Dawn Pfaff, Joyce Johnson, Mary Jane Nolan, Steven Knudsen, and Sue Deans. This product would not have been possible without their valuable insights and guidance. The assistance of the entire KEEP Staff and WCEE Director Randy Champeau were also vital and timely. A big bouquet of gratitude to all! |
