Joe sat glumly in his communications technology class. Mr. Palkovici's latest assignment was totally boring. "Research a current environmental issue in Wisconsin and prepare a PowerPoint or other digital presentation analyzing the issue in an unbiased format. Use resources such as the internet, media, and conference proceedings. Linking the issue with potential community action projects is encouraged."

All environmental issues Joe heard about were things like landfills, water quality, or air pollution. He knew they were important, but they didn't really affect him in his daily life. Why should he care?

High school students often see the current issues of the day only as flashing headlines on a television screen as they change the channel to something better. Inspire your students to realize that these issues DO affect their lives and that they DO have a voice to be heard.

Other Hot Topic Issues - New energy related hot topic issues will be added every quarter. These sections will mainly consist of Web site links. Archives will remain available.
