Wisconsin Program
Summer 2008
The
2008 Global Environmental Teachings (GET) Multinational Teacher Exchange in
Wisconsin invites teachers from past GET programs in Puerto Rico, South
Africa and China to participate in an exploration of Wisconsin’s natural
resources and learn new techniques for how to use environmental education in
their classrooms. Multinational participation helps teachers relate their
experience of Wisconsin ecology to ecosystems around the world. The
program challenges teachers from four distinctly different countries to work
together through language and cultural barriers to reach a shared
understanding of Wisconsin’s natural resource landscape and environmental
challenges. Teachers work to translate this knowledge into lesson
plans they can use with their students upon completion of the program.
In addition, teachers are encouraged to forge international
teacher-to-teacher partnerships that will enrich their students’
environmental education experience for years to come.
Requirements:
You must be a formal K-12 educator that has
participated in a past GET program (PR06, SA06, and CH07 only).
English language skills are strongly recommended. The travel course
will be delivered in English, but GET will work to have as many program
activities translated into participants’ native language as possible.
Components:
There will be no online course offered for this program. Participants
will travel throughout Wisconsin for the duration of the two-week program.
Course themes are “Inquiry-based Science” and “Community Resources.”
