Wisconsin EE Resources The GET staff has compiled a list of programs that offer outreach to K-16 educators in regards to improving international education in Wisconsin. These programs can help you integrate international components in to your curriculum, and focus your studies to a particular region of the world.
African Studies Program This program based out of the University of Wisconsin Madison, aims to increase the use of African studies in K-16 settings throughout Wisconsin. Their outreach activities include providing curriculum specialists to work with educators to increase their understanding and use of African studies in their curriculum, resources, audiovisual resources, workshops and speakers.
Center for Biology Education (CBE) The Center for Biology Education develops and coordinates a spectrum of activities/programs for the university, for K-12 teachers and students and for the general public with the aim of promoting excellence in biology education at all levels.
Center for East Asia Studies (CEAS) CEAS brings together a dynamic group of faculty, teachers and students with interdisciplinary backgrounds to study China, Japan and Korea. This program provides several outreach opportunities for K-16 educators including workshops, lectures, events, resources and curriculum development.
Center for European Studies (CES) This U.S. Department Title VI National Resource Center focuses on improving European studies in the state of Wisconsin, while simultaneously providing undergraduate courses at the University of Wisconsin Madison. CES focuses on improving the knowledge of a new found Europe that emerged after the end of the Cold War. Outreach opportunities include speakers, conferences, teacher workshops and online resources.
Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) www.uwm.edu/Dept/CLACS/index.html This U.S. Department Title VI National Resource Center develops and promotes resources and outreach in the field of Latin American and Caribbean studies. They provide several services to K-16 educators to help them incorporate Latin American and Caribbean studies into their teaching. Center for Russian, East Europe, and Central Asia (CREECA) This U.S. Department Title VI National Resource Center aims to increase the understanding of Russia, East Europe and Central Asia, supply new generations the skills, tools and experiences to understand these areas and serve communities through outreach activities. Center for South Asia Established in 1961, this Title VI National Resource Center focuses on India, Pakistan, Nepal and Tibet and to a lesser extent Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. This center provides online resources to learn more about south Asia, including an interactive map.
Friends of International Education www.friendsofinternationaled.org This is a Wisconsin based organization that aims to connect Wisconsin to the world. They have resources for educators, course curriculum and activities.
Global Studies Base out of the University of Madison, the Global Studies program action plan in Wisconsin is to help the nation address contemporary global issues and changes. K-12 outreach efforts by Global Studies includes the World Ecosystems Beyond Borders (WEBB) program. WEBB helps middle school educators incorporate global environmental issues into their science and social studies curriculum. Click on "K-12 Outreach" on the link to learn more.
