Students all over the world are doing various projects and activities to make their school and environment greener. The "Greening Our School" Photo Contest helped to build a better understanding for different cultures and how humans throughout the world affect and are affected by the environment. Through a photo sharing activity and contest students connected internationally and ultimately enhanced their understanding of what environmental projects other students are doing at their schools. The participation offered students a global glance of school activities from different countries through poster distribution and website exhibit. The sharing of different cultures and nature encourages students to participate in additional environmental activities in their school and community. This project also offers an opportunity for educators to connect with other peers to discuss environment activities and subsequently spark student interest in implementing projects in their local schools and communities. GET's First International Photo Contest focused on green schools' activities. The theme for 2006 was "Greening Our School" Photos taken by students between 13-18 years old were asked to participate. Each entry to the contest received a certificate of recognition. Three winners (gold, silver, and bronze) from each age group cluster (13-14, 15-16, 17-18) were selected by a committee. All winning photos were reproduced on a poster and distributed to participating schools for World Environment Day (June 5, 2006). All the winners received twenty-five copies of the posters, while each entry received two.
