Sample Itinerary: China

Day 1

Arrive in Beijing, China.

Tour the Beijing Botanical Gardens and visit the Old Summer Palace- Yuanmingyuan.

At the Beijing Botanical Gardens, learn about some of China's top environmental education organizations.

Visit the Great Wall of China.

Travel to Xinjiang and meet the China teachers.

Through lectures and activities, learn what environmental groups and schools are doing in Xinjiang.

Travel to Tianchi for an overnight field experience. Scientists and teachers will lead interpretive hikes and activities.

Engage in morning activities in the field. That evening, return to Urumqi.

Travel to Turpan stopping along the way to learn about China's largest wind farm.

Visit Karez Irrigation Site and Jiaohe Ruins.

Day 11

Travel back to Urumqi stopping to visit the Tian Shan Mountains. That evening receive a cultural tour by visiting the Bazaar.

Travel to Yunnan

Visit the Kunming Institute of Botany to receive an overview of Yunnan.

Day 14

Early in the morning, leave Kunming to visit the Shilin Stone Forest. Upon returning, stop at the Yunnan Nationalities Village to learn about Yunnan's unique ethnic diversity. 

In the morning, visit Kunming's top green schools. Learn ways they engage students through environmental education. After lunch, travel to Jinghong.

While in Jinghong, visit the Banna Wild Elephant Valley in the Sanchahe Nature Reserve. That evening, share teaching methods with other teachers.

Continue experiencing the biological diversity of Yunnan through a visit to the Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden and Wangtianshu Forest.

Participants will have a cultural day by visiting a rice paddy field, rubber plantation, and a few temples in the area. That evening, there will be a working session for teachers to create action plans to bring information back to their schools.  

Return to Kunming. That evening, engage in a farewell party.
