Vision
To increase the environmental literacy of Wisconsin's students by providing exemplary environmental science opportunities and resources.

Goal
To connect teachers to one another and to resources to enhance environmental science education in Wisconsin's 7th-12th grade classrooms. 

Objectives

  • Facilitate a communication network for environmental science teachers
  • Provide a model environmental science framework/course
  • Connect environmental science teachers with access to resources that enhance their teaching (e.g., equipment, books, activities, people)
  • Provide professional development opportunities for environmental science teachers

Advisory Committee
The Wisconsin Environmental Science Teacher Network is guided through input from a group of environmental science teachers and environmental education professionals.

Network Accomplishments

  • Wisconsin Environmental Science Course Framework (2008) - The Wisconsin Environmental Science Course Framework has been developed with input from educators in Wisconsin's environmental science community. The purpose for the framework is to provide a consistent foundation upon which environmental science courses in Wisconsin can be developed. The framework aids new teachers in implementing environmental science courses, provides veteran environmental science teachers with new ideas, and facilitates the sharing of ideas and resources between educators. The framework contains topics that have been identified as important components of an environmental science course and prioritizes the topics to aid those with limited course time.   • Digital Resource Library (2008) - A clearinghouse of environmental science resources for high school courses has been developed. The resource library supports the Wisconsin Environmental Science Course Framework and is comprised of lessons, labs, field trips, web sites, videos, and more submitted by Wisconsin environmental science teachers.   • Database Creation (2007) - Research was done to locate and identify all Wisconsin high school environmental science teachers. A database of those educators and others with interest in the Wisconsin Environmental Science Teacher Network has been created. To date, there are over 600 contacts.
