Course Cost
$357.02 (one graduate
credit) Fifteen $100 scholarships from the Wisconsin Center for
Environmental Education (WCEE) will be given to environmental science
teachers.
Course Description
This course provides credit to teachers who participate in the 2009
Wisconsin Environmental Science Teacher Summit. The primary audience is
high school environmental science teachers but others may benefit from
the experience.
Day 1 (August 17): The focus of the first day is on
field activities that build teachers’ repertoire of outdoor educational
experiences. Required sessions include a guided canoe exploration or
naturalist-led hike (10:00-12:00); choosing two field sessions from
forestry, wildlife, and pond study (1:00-4:50); historical forestry
interpretation (6:00-7:30).
Day 2 (August 18):
The focus of the second day is on providing material for teaching
sustainability-based lessons. Required session include keynote speaker
(9:00-9:25); workshops on biofuels and assessing energy and carbon
balance & sustainability education for the classroom (9:30-3:15);
environmental science resource sharing (3:15-4:30).
Assignment Students will need to complete a course
assignment and submit it by August 28, 2009.
