The Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education (WAEE) is pleased to announce the availability of student scholarships for attending WAEE conferences. The goal of the scholarship program is to support students who are interested in pursuing careers in the field of environmental education. The scholarship also serves to commemorate a founding member of WAEE, Michael Flitter, who was a champion of EE in Wisconsin, and a friend to students.

Please carefully read the criteria below and please contact WAEE with questions.

Scholarships Include

  • 4 scholarships each for the Winter Workshop and Fall Conference. Mid-West conference scholarships will be updated for those years Wisconsin sponsors those events.
  • Scholarships cover up to 50% of the total program costs including lodging, meals, registration, and workshops/field trips. The maximum grant will be $75.00 per scholarship recipient.

Criteria

  • Applicants must be a current WAEE member at the time of application.
  • Applicants must be enrolled at least halftime in a Wisconsin college or university in environmental education, interpretation, education or a related field.
  • Preference will be given to students presenting at the conference.
  • Students may only receive one scholarship during their academic career. Scholarship committee members and members of their families are not eligible.
  • Scholarship recipients must register for the conference at least two weeks prior to the conference date. Students who fail to do so will forfeit their scholarships.
  • Scholarships will cover up to 50% of the total program costs including lodging, meals, registration, and workshops/field trips. The maximum grant will be $75.00 per scholarship recipient.
  • During the conference, scholarship recipients must volunteer at least 4 hours with the special events committee on the conference auction or as needed. Scholarship recipients who fail to fulfill their volunteer responsibilities will forfeit their scholarship and be expected to pay WAEE for the full cost of their attendance.
  • Adjustment(s) to the above are subject to board approval.

Selection Procedure & Timetable

  • Application and registration must be received no later than January 1 each year for Winter Workshop and October 1 each year for Fall Conference.
  • Scholarship applications will be reviewed by scholarship committee.
  • Scholarship recipients will be notified by the scholarship committee no later than two weeks prior to conference.
  • Students who paid conference fees up front, will receive refund checks after scholarships are awarded.
  • Students need to attend the conference and meet with the conference chair at registration to obtain volunteer duties.
