Keeping the EE in GREEN: To Learn, To Live, To Act
October 21-24, 2009: Eau Claire, WI
Ramada Convention Center
WAEE is excited to venture to the Chippewa Valley for the annual conference. Located in the rolling hills and river valleys of western Wisconsin, Eau Claire will be the perfect location to enjoy the fall color change while networking with other professionals in the field of environmental education.
The 2009 theme: Keeping the EE in GREEN, will
include sessions, workshops, and speakers concentrating on how
to find resources and teach “green” initiatives, how to model
and promote “green” behavior, and how to make your homes, nature
centers and classrooms “green.” The conference will also include
nightly entertainment and the annual awards dinner and auction.
Add this unique experience to your calendars now so you have
another WAEE event to look forward too!

Strands
Sustainable living: indoors and out
What is sustainability? How can it be incorporated into our
homes, schools, offices, yards, and playgrounds? This strand
will focus on the home, school or other buildings in the
community and how to make them run more efficiently and be more
“green.” The sessions would not only feature new ideas or ways
of thinking but also show how to incorporate those ideas into
the places where we live and work.
Greening the body and mind
Before we can teach others about what it means to be “green” we
have to be able to live “green” ourselves. This strand will
focus on the individual and ways that each of us can live more
sustainably: more “green.” The sessions can feature methods to
personalize your “green” lifestyle.
Green citizenship and community initiatives
Sometimes in order to make a difference we need to act. This
strand will be all about citizen and community action. The
sessions should present ways for individuals, classes,
organizations and schools to get involved in the “green”
movement.
Green activities for the classroom
As important as it is to be “green” we also need to teach what
we practice. This strand will be about passing along the ideas
of sustainability to students. The sessions should contain
lessons, activities or curriculums that teachers and non-formal
educators can implement in their classrooms dealing with
sustainability and being “green.”
