Public Programs

Treehaven's Public Programs offers a wide variety of opportunities to get you or your family outdoors and having fun.  Offerings range, from nature related crafts and skills such as snowshoe weaving or outdoor photography to in depth study of wolves or opportunity to become proficient in Leave-No-Trace, backpacking, yoga and much more.  College credit is often available.  Weekend workshops generally run Friday night through Sunday lunch and are all inclusive with instruction, great meals and comfortable lodging all on site.

Holiday Banquets

Dinner and A Movie - Environmental Films
Again this year, you can enjoy a wonderful dinner in our WinterBerry Dining Hall with the option of staying for a environmental film for free.  Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and the movie to start at 6:30 p.m., please review the brochure for dates and movie showings. Dinner & A Movie Brochure

Introduction to Dog Sledding
A fun learning experience, from choosing your dogs and equipment, to tips and tricks, along with running dogs outside. Dog Sledding Brochure

January 15-17
Snowshoe Weaving
Experience the traditional art of snowshoe weaving for a weekend.  At this workshop you will get to weave your own set of historical looking shoes in a friendly atmosphere with excellent instruction.  After the weekend ends you will get to take home your masterpiece!

Snowshoe Furniture Weaving
Take a day to learn the weaving pattern and knot used in traditional snowshoe making to create a folding rocker. Furniture Weaving Brochure

Native American Flute Workshop
Come construct your own flute from cedar to take home!  You will determine the fundamental note and bring life into the flute by learning how to play it too!  The linked Flute Brochure will give you more information on the workshop and instructor!  Don't miss out, space is limited!

Snowshoe Weekend for Kids & Parents

Winter Becoming Outdoors Women (BOW) - 12th Annual
Are you interested in learning with other ladies in any of the following areas:  Snowshoeing, Cross-Country Skiing, Dog Sledding, Ice Fishing, Astronomy, Animal Tracking, Sewing with Fur and much more!  Check out BOW's Website fore registration information.

Fly Tying Workshop
This favorite workshop will introduce you to basic fly tying techniques, tools and materials, trout stream invertebrates, stream ecology, resource ethics, and theories on hatch matching and fly presentation.  You'll have loads of fun!!  Check out the Fly Tying Brochure for more information and to register.

Carving a Scandinavian Style Eating Spoon
Learn while carving a fine eating spoon based on the long standing Scandinavian spoon carving tradition.  When your done, you take the spoon home!  View this course on our Natural Materials Brochure along with the other classes that are taught by the same instructors.

April 16-18
Group Process and Facilitation Skills
This course will concentrate on effective techniques for group creative brainstorming, decision making, and prioritization of ideas.  Adapted nominal group consensus building skills, concept mapping and digraphs are some of the specific techniques that participants will practice and learn to apply to their group or term situation.  More information located on the brochure.  Graduate credit is available if interested, contact Treehaven 715-453-4106.

April 24-25
Advanced Black Ash Basketry
Hands on preparation of the raw material and weaving of the basket.  Then whittle the finishing touches on pre-bent handles followed by the final lashing of the rims!  Great item to give as a gift or enjoy at home!  View this course on our Natural Materials Brochure along with the other classes that are taught by the same instructors.

Fly Fishing
Come join John Heusinkveld, Treehaven Assistant Director at Treehaven and learn the fun and exciting sport of fly-fishing.  Learn the basics, enjoy a nice dinner in the WinterBerry Dining Hall and heading out to local waters and test out your fly-fishing skills. Fly Fishing Brochure
