Guidelines for Using Steinhaugen
Steinhaugen welcomes UWSP College of Natural Resources faculty, staff and students to use the 280-acre Steinhaugen property for education, research and demonstration purposes that benefit the mission of the College.
The use of the land is governed by a 2005 Memorandum of Agreement between Steinhaugen, Inc., and UWSP College of Natural Resources. To maintain the privilege of accessing this wonderful outdoor laboratory for current and future generations of students, it is important that ALL USERS adhere to the terms of the agreement.
The Steinhaugen property is being actively managed to meet forest and wildlife management goals. CNR users of the Steinhaugen property need to be aware to these activities in planning their use of the property. In some cases, the activities may provide an opportunity for additional class projects.
To arrange access to the Steinhaugen property, faculty, staff and students are asked to follow the following steps:
Read the Memorandum of Agreement
Register the Activity - Complete the on-line form at the following link to describe your activity. The form will allow us to avoid and resolve any scheduling conflicts and record the kinds of activities conducted on Steinhaugen.
Schedule the Activity - A CNR faculty or staff member should schedule any activity at Steinhaugen by contacting Tammy Hanson, CNR Program Assistant (x4617). The activity will be posted to an Outlook calendar so that scheduling and usage conflicts can be avoided. Note that, due to safety reasons, the property is closed during the gun-deer hunting season. Note that for recurring activities, such as lab sections for courses, EACH SESSION should be scheduled on the calendar. New activities or research on the property must be approved in advance. Inquiries/proposals should be directed to Richard Olson.
Share the knowledge! - It is
strongly encouraged that any progress or outcomes of these educational
activities -- such as research data and project reports -- be shared with
Steinhaugen, Inc. Such knowledge is of interest to the property owners, and it
contributes to the long term effective management of Steinhaugen. These
success stories should be summarized on or linked to the Steinhaugen "projects"
web page.
Remember:
- access on evenings,
nights, and weekends and such other conditions requires prior approval by Dick
Olson at olson627@juno.com.
