South Denali Visitor Center

Scope of Work

Schmeeckle Reserve Interpreters was hired by Alaska State Parks in July, 2007 to begin planning for the South Denali Visitor Center.

The following information is contained in the Memorandum of Understanding.

  • Project completion date: No later than December 31, 2008
  • Purpose of project: To develop and produce a master interpretive plan for a new visitor center complex to be constructed in Denali State Park.
  • Contract services: Contractor shall provide all services necessary to develop a Master Interpretive Plan to include, but not limited to: creating a public involvement plan and conducting public meetings; and developing a resource inventory. The Master Interpretive Plan shall contain at minimum: purpose, goals, objectives, interpretive themes, audience analysis, proposed interpretive materials, delivery, and evaluation guidance.
  • Interpretive Plan Development: The Contractor shall provide a master interpretive plan development structure that:
  • Determines the mission and goals for the facility
  • Conducts a market analysis by assessing the visitor including residents
  • Thoroughly analyzes the resources in a holistic manner
  • Facilitates the developed Vision Statement
  • Considers the interpretive, landscape, and structural elements equally
  • Develops themes and messages that complement the proposed visitor center complex
  • Suggests appropriate interpretation implementation
  • Coordinates with other agencies and stakeholders to provide opportunities for input
