Schmeeckle Reserve Trail Rangers
and Patrol Assistants
Trail
Ranger Internship
The Schmeeckle Trail Ranger
program is an internship
coordinated through the Law
Enforcement Discipline
of the College of Natural
Resources. It provides important
practical skills working with
visitors and enforcing rules in
a park setting for
non-credentialed students.
Trail Rangers are ambassadors of
Schmeeckle Reserve and must be
friendly and outgoing. Their
responsibility is to walk over 5
miles of trails, greet visitors
and provide information, and
serve as the "eyes and ears" for
any rule violations.
The internship runs from late
spring to early fall, and
requires night and weekend work.
If you are interested in this
position, please contact
Dr. Bob
Holsman who coordinates the
internship.
Patrol Assistants
Patrol assistants work directly
with the Trail Ranger Interns
described above. For safety, a
trail ranger needs to have an
assistant for every patrol
shift. The assistant helps the
rangers as "eyes and ears" for
rule violations, and provides
backup when necessary. A person
in this position must be
friendly, outgoing, and able to
work evenings and weekends. The
job does require several miles
of walking every shift. |
