Debbie White hails
from the Chicago area but considers herself an "adopted
Cheesehead." She obtained her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin
- Stevens Point in 1995, majoring in Resource Management / Environmental
Interpretation and Biology with a minor in Captive Wildlife Management.
The Uncle Sam was the largest diamond ever found at Crater of Diamonds. This 40.23 carat stone was discovered during commercial mining operations in the1920s.
After working as the Interpretive Services Manager at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago for three years, Debbie returned to UW - Stevens Point to pursue a Master of Science in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources. After graduating in May 2001, she will begin pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental Communications or a related area. Eventually, Debbie would like to teach interpretation to undergraduate students as a university professor.
And no, Debbie has not found any diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park during the course of the project. She'll have to pay for grad school some other way...
Debbie's advisor is Dr. Michael Gross, Professor of Environmental Interpretation at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Ron Zimmerman, Instructor in Environmental Interpretation, is closely involved with the Crater of Diamonds project as well. Other graduate committee members include Dr. Richard Geesey, Professor of Forest Recreation and Dr. Kevin Hefferan, Assistant Professor of Geography/Geology.
