What is the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station?
The Central Wisconsin Environmental Station (CWES) is a year-round conference and environmental education center located 17 miles east of Stevens Point, WI. CWES is a field station of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point College of Natural Resources.
The CWES mission is to foster in adults and youth the appreciation, understanding, skill development, and motivation needed to help them build a sustainable balance between environment, economy, and community. This is done by offering quality programming and environmental experiences to all who attend. School groups come to CWES for 1-3 day programs from over 30 Wisconsin school districts.
During the summer, opportunities abound for kids aged 8-18, in such experiences as Archaeology Field Camps, Natural resources Career Camps, general environmental experiences for younger kids, and adventure trips such as mountain biking in the Wolf River Valley, or canoeing near the Apostle Islands. Whichever experiences children choose, they are guaranteed to get an experience not soon forgotten.
