NEEAP's Newcomers

The Environmental Education Advocate - Summer 1997

The following information is provided to you as a service of the National Environmental Education Advancement Project (NEEAP). We encourage you to use it and please credit the National Environmental Education Advancement Project where appropriate.

We would like to welcome two new staff members to the NEEAP team; Program Assistant, Amy Kowalski and Graduate Assistant, Tracie Beasley. Amy will be helping NEEAP with office and program administration. She came to us through the University of Wisconsin and enthusiastically joined our team in May. Amy has a degree in Psychology (emphasis: human services) from UWSP and is pursuing a master’s degree in school counseling.

As a Wisconsin native, Amy has been able to take advantage of many outdoor recreational activities. She enjoys softball, volleyball, golf, water and snow skiing, biking, swimming, and walks along the Green Circle Trail with her husband Donny and their dog Bubba. Amy grew up in the country learning the "laws of the land" from her dad. He taught her, along with 10 years of 4-H, the importance of all animals and plants, and the need to how to take care of each other.

Tracie Beasley began as NEEAP's new graduate assistant in early July. Tracie will be taking over the duties of Michelle Kirk assistant Coordinator. Tracie is from the Blue Ridge area of Virginia and received her B.S. in biology and marine science from the University of South Carolina-Coastal. Tracie has spent the last three years teaching at various residential and outdoor environmental education programs throughout New England and Florida. She has just finished a year of part time master’s study in environmental education at Florida Institute of Technology, while serving as the naturalist and education coordinator of a local chapter of Florida Audubon.

While teaching and exploring, Tracie has acquired numerous hobbies which include: backpacking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, photography, birding, and guitar playing. Tracie is very excited to be a part of the NEEAP program and claims to be ecstatic about leaving the sweltering heat of Florida, saying she can’t wait for the winter snows and the winter sports. (We’ll see!)

We hope that both Tracie and Amy will gain much at NEEAP as they are sure to contribute. Welcome aboard to both!
