A Comprehensive EE Plan is in the works for the state of Alabama. After developing a teacher’s guide to existing resources in the state, the Alabama Statewide Collaborative for Environmental Education (ASCEE) will be developing of a comprehensive EE plan. ASCEE is working with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and other agencies/organizations to create the EE plan called for in the overall 1989 State Environmental Plan. The Plan will have two major components: one addressing formal education, the second addressing public or informal education. With five broad target areas in the draft plan (Awareness and Appreciation, Ecological Systems and Interrelationships, Culture and Society, Resources and Resource Management, and Responsible Action), ASCEE will be working on action steps, standards, and other details. The plan should be ready for dissemination to the public for comment by October. ASCEE is working to build relationships with the Department of Education and key legislators as it develops tge plan.
