The Environment Council of Rhode Island (ECRI) Education Fund recently received a $5,000 EE Grant from the U.S. EPA for State Coordination.  The funds will be used to:  1) establish an EE contact in each of RI's 330 public and 100 private schools, 2) examine RI's EE curricula by matching them up to already developed state Science and Social Studies standards and to the NAAEE 1996 Guidelines for Excellence, and 3) form a Component Steering Committee to evaluate RI's comprehensive EE programs based on the "wheel" model (Ruskey & Wilke, 1994).  The ECRI Education Fund plans to form 10 teams, composed of one professional educator, one professional environmentalist, and one parent with a student(s) in grade(s) K-12, to review the EE curricula.  For more information contact Guy Lefebvre at (401) 353-3644 or treeguy@ids.net.
