Steps Toward Success: Lessons from the EETAP States Program

This booklet summarizes the achievements and lessons learned by participants in the EETAP States Program during the past five years (2000-2005). Steps Toward Success attempts to pass along valuable information, found within four main themes, to EE leaders interested in undertaking capacity building projects of their own. The focus of this booklet is on the broader issues encountered when attempting to build capacity in the field of EE, rather than the specific details of any one project.

The "In the Spotlight" section of the most recent issue of The EE Advocate tells the states' stories in their own words.

About the EETAP States Program:
The EETAP States Program seeks to quickly and successfully advance EE training in eight states utilizing the tools of capacity building and focusing on priority initiatives in the field of environmental education. This includes training for teachers in pre- and in-service, increasing the cultural diversity of EE leaders and audiences served, using the NAAEE Guidelines for Excellence and utilizing Internet technology.

About EETAP:
The Environmental Education and Training Partnership (EETAP) is a consortium of leading education and environmental education organizations working to advance education and environmental literacy. EETAP partners conduct a variety of activities designed to support the capacity of educators to teach about the environment using sound methods and quality resources. EETAP's overall mission is to coordinate and deliver support services and training to advance education and environmental literacy in the United States. EETAP will pursue this mission through five major program areas in 2001 that include: Capacity Building, Education Reform, Professional Development, Diverse Audiences, and Communication and Internet Access.

EETAP is funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Education through a cooperative agreement awarded in a competitive process.
