Final Narrative Agenda (July 2003)

Session Descriptions

Team Liaison Check-In:  Every morning a team representative, along with resource people and facilitators, check in for important announcements, and to give clinic planners feedback to make agenda adjustments.

Orientation:  Join a Treasure Hunt that will leave you holding all the loot you need to navigate your way through the clinic.

Team Planning: This is reserved for teams to focus on issues, plans, and team building steps.

Fact Finding Mission - Share Fair: This is a chance for your team to share your goals, model projects, and challenges will other teams. Participants will share ideas, and schedule time to meet with teams or resource people to help your team with their goals. This is where you map your journey.

Community Based Environmental Education: This will provide practical examples of, and resources for, Community Based EE. We will hear from clinic participants who are leading CBEE initiatives. We will work on CBEE competencies, strategies, and resources, and take it back to team plans.

Diversity Dessert:  Food has a unique way of drawing people together and lending joy and meaning to gatherings. Bring your sweet tooth and come celebrate and explore - through desserts - the rich diversity of cultures and ethnicities represented at our clinic.

Open Space:  Open Space is a completely participant driven technique that allows the time, flexibility, and space for participants to create their own agenda on the spot. You will be able to address potential initiatives or nagging questions and issues that we haven't had time for yet in the agenda.

Professional Development Sessions

Leadership Development: This two-part session that explores the differences between leading people and managing people, including the responsibilities of a leader and the cornerstones for growth. The second session will examine some tough questions such as How can I motivate people; How can I get production and avoid burnout; How can I tell who the next leaders are.

Diversity and Environmental Education: In the first session participants will be introduced to the Diversity Cases project conducted by EETAP that include first hand accounts dilemmas related to EE and diversity. In the second segment, we will reflect on cultural implications of EE based on experiences.

Evaluation (101 and 301): This is a continuous session with two distinct parts: the first will be an introductory level session in which we will generate common language, understand what evaluation is, and what evaluation can and cannot do. The second session will build on the needs of the participants to discuss structures, evaluation planning, methodology, statistical claims, or whatever the group determines is most important.

Community Based EE:  The first session explores community vision to action forums as a means to link environmental quality, economic vitality, educational achievement and social health, with a diverse range of citizens. The second session will focus on building strong and vibrant school-community partnerships.

Sustainable Fundraising: Participants will explore three case studies of EE organizations and their funding strategies, challenges, and successes. Participants will work through a series of activities that will guide them in developing a funding plan that identifies needs, opportunities, and strategies for sustainable funding for EE in their states and communities.

Media and EE: You have a Story to Tell! Gain a better understanding of what real world reporters are looking for and how to tell your story. Gain resources and learn techniques to help craft your media message at the local and state level.
