Professional Development - LEAF Field Day

LEAF Forestry Field Day 2005

Looking through a clinometer

Twenty-two educators participated in LEAF's first annual Forestry Field Day in central Wisconsin on June 17, 2005. During the field day teachers took part in a mock forest inventory at the Nine Mile Creek Recreation Area in Marathon County, toured the Wausau Homes manufacturing facility and determined how many trees in the inventory it would take to build one Wausau Homes house. Marathon County Forester Doug Brown also discussed how the county manages forestland for recreation, timber, and maintaining the health of the forest.

LEAF holds an annual Forestry Field Day in a different region of the state each summer. Anyone who has attended a previous LEAF workshop is welcome to attend at no cost. The goal of the day is to enhance teachers' knowledge of Wisconsin's forests and provide them with new teaching resources through industry tours, hands-on field work, and interactions with resource professionals.
