Fall 2007

  Outagamie County Workshop, November 15, Bovina Town Hall

The plan commission has two mega-roles: plan preparation and plan implementation. A good plan commission takes the time and exhibits the expertise to make informed land use recommendations to busy elected officials. To get started, the elected local government body creates the plan commission, and then appoints plan commissioners from among the citizenry. Ultimately, the elected body is responsible not only for adopting and implementing plans, but for the preparedness of the plan commission it creates.

  Columbia and Sauk County Workshop Series, October-November, Portage and Baraboo

This workshop series is designed to explain the process of comprehensive planning beginning with the formation of a plan commission through the implementation of the plan.

This workshop marks the completion of our initial Comprehensive Planning Workshop series for town and village plan commissions. We have arrived at the conclusion of our “Planning Trip” and now will look at how we can implement our plan and incorporate it into our local decision making process.  

This workshop will provide an overview of implementation strategies for the comprehensive plan elements. A panel of experts will discuss successful implementation strategies for municipalities, even those without zoning.

• Tools for implementing the comprehensive plan

This workshop will provide the basics of public participation as a key component to the development of your municipality's comprehensive land use plan.  Examples of public participation plans and community surveys will also be provided.

Comprehensive Plan Implementation Workshop

This workshop is designed for town plan commissioners and board supervisors; county zoning committee members, board supervisors and zoning administrators; city and village planning commissioners and zoning administrators; city councilors; and village trustees.

Workshop learning objectives:

• Increase understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the plan commission and other local officials regarding implementing the plan
• Increase ability to utilize the plan for land use decision making
• Increase understanding of the consistency requirement between the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance
• Increase understanding of the various tools and strategies to implement the plan and meet the plan's goals.
