Wisconsin Land Use Megatrends:  Housing
The second publication in the Wisconsin Megatrends series is now available in portable document format (pdf) on our publications webpage in full color and a printable white background version.  The goal of this publication is to illustrate statewide land use trends related to housing in Wisconsin.

The Implementation Element Guide is coming together and should be available this summer.

Also, a Sustainable Communities Toolkit for local governments is expected in the summer.

Update of the Zoning Board Handbook continues.

News From Around the State

Two Trends in Municipal Finance
By Dan Thompson, Executive Director, League of Wisconsin Municipalities
I was asked to identify and quantify the biggest trends in municipal finance over the past 20 to 30 years.  The two biggest trends are: 1) increasing reliance on the property tax to fund municipal government; and 2) shifting more of the property tax burden to homeowners. Both trends are easy to document.

DATCP's  Livestock Siting Newsletter for August is published on the topic:  Making the Transition:  CUPs (conditional use permits) Under the Siting Law.  The topics for future articles will address issues related to how to handle existing permits and expansions; local government's ability to adopt more stringent standards; the siting review board; overlay zones; and the use of licensing ordinances.  For more information, check the DATCP siting website or contact Coreen Fallat at 608-224-4625 for up-to-date training opportunities.
