Upper Mississippi River NWR, Thomson, IL

Interns will assist in waterfowl banding, various wildlife surveys: heron rookeries, eagle, waterfowl, frogs, and toads, etc., perform wildlife habitat and wetland restoration work, invasive species monitoring and other research studies.  Experience:  Prefer Juniors or Seniors enrolled in a wildlife or natural resources program with a goal of working in the natural resource field.  Pay:  $500 upon successful completion of 320 hours or $250 upon successful completion of 160 hours of work.  Free housing may be available.    Duration:  Work schedules are flexible with full time or part time work.  APPLICATION DEADLINE:   31 March 2005.  Contact Pam Steinhaus (815-723-2732) for an application.  The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, Savanna District stretches for 90 river miles from approximately Dubuque, IA to just north of the Quad Cities.  Daily work assignments are at the District Office in Thomson, IL.
