US Fish and Wildlife Service Internship Assists refuge
personnel in completing annual wildlife inventories; collects wildlife
resource data and prepares routine reports and records; assists refuge
personnel in habitat management activities including exotic species control,
seed collection and water level manipulation; performs minor maintenance on
refuge buildings, grounds, boundaries and public use facilities; assists refuge
personnel with private lands initiatives including wetland determinations,
restoration site surveys and FSA boundary posting. Work is performed
indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
Intern may be subject to inclement weather, sunburn, minor cuts,
bruises and insect bites. The work
involved bending, walking and a moderate amount of physical exertion. Interns may be required to lift objects
weighing up to 50 pounds and to use all types of simple hand tools when
performing general maintenance. Experience: General knowledge of
the principles of wildlife management to enable intern to understand and
perform assigned duties; introductory knowledge of plant and animal taxonomy;
ability to use simple hand tools such as hammer, axe, saw, etc. to perform
minor maintenance and repairs; ability to keep records and collect data;
skill in communicating with others; driver’s license and ability to drive
manual shift vehicles; experience working out of small boats is desirable,
but not required. Pay: Volunteer
Duration: 6-10-wk
commitment, 40 hrs/wk. Usual tour of
duty will be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., M-F. Some evenings, early mornings and weekends
