NEW Zoo internships, Green Bay, WI

NEW Zoo is an AZA accredited institution that houses over 280 animals.  It is located within the Brown County Reforestation Camp, a 1,560-acre recreation area.  The following internship positions are available:

 

Zookeeper/Education interns receive a well-rounded experience that includes husbandry duties as well as public education experiences.  Husbandry duties include but are not limited to cleaning holding areas and exhibits, feeding animals, preparing animal diets, assisting with veterinary procedures (if necessary), and loading/unloading supplies.  Education experience is gained through a variety of opportunities.  This includes but is not limited to operating Discovery Carts, educating visitors at the contact station, and participating in interpretive presentations such as zoo tours and exhibit talks.     Must complete a culminating project. Experience:  Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.  Must be reliable, prompt, and detail-oriented.  Must be able to work in all weather conditions. 

 

Education interns work with the Education Coordinator to develop and instruct education programs and services, including but not limited to on-site education programs, summer zoo camps and off-site ZooMobiles.  Interpretive experience will also be gained through the delivery of exhibit talks, amphitheatre presentations, and zoo tours.  Must complete a culminating project. Experience:  Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.  Must enjoy working with children ages 4 and up.  Must be reliable, prompt, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.  Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

 

Horticulture interns will have the unique opportunity to assist dedicated volunteers with the maintenance and landscaping of the NEW Zoo gardens and exhibits. Must complete a culminating project.  Experience:  Ability to work in a team environment.  Must be self-motivated, reliable and prompt.  Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.

 

Pay:  These are not paid positions.   

Duration:  Work schedules are variable and determined at the time of hiring.
