Children’s Animal Center Internship

Children’s Animal Center internships are offered in spring, summer and fall of each year.  Interns will assist with  daily cleaning and care of the Petting Pasture animals including but not limited to:  pygmy, Nubian and Angora goats, Navajo-Churro, Southdown, Hampshrire and Suffolk sheep, Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs, Aldabran and African spurred tortoises, Bare-eyed cockatoos, Blue and Gold macaws, and the ocelots and maned wolves at the Overlook.  Interns will also be responsible for maintaining Nature trail areas located in the vicinity.  Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  interacting with children, talking to visitors about our animals, helping to develop educational displays and programs, and assisting with outreach and Youth Volunteer programs.  Apply »

 

Black Rhino Internship – Rhino Research internships are offered in spring summer and fall of each year.  Interns will be responsible for the daily maintenance of the black rhino herd.  Other duties include observation and chute conditioning of the rhinos, record keeping, sample collection and participation in publishing scientific articles.  Fossil Rim is currently involved in several research projects both within and in cooperation with other facilities.  Apply »

 

Avian Internship – Avian internships are offered in spring and run through summer of each year.  Avian interns will assist the Avian Supervisor with the daily record keeping, clearing and care of Attwater’s prairie chickens and Japanese red crown cranes.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  visual observation of specimens, compiling data, maintaining flights, diet preparation, assisting with incubation procedures and hand rearing chicks for the annual release program. Public Education Intern

Environmental Education interns learn to do guided tours for families making use of 12 passenger vans and smaller jeeps.  They also work with school and scout groups in a variety of learning activities.  They present short lessons on chemical capture techniques, radio telemetry methods, poisonous arthropods, natural dyes and inks, fossils and much more.  This wide variety or teaching opportunities and educational training provides the education intern with an exciting array of new skills and experiences.  Training is provided by the education staff. Animal Care Apprentice*

This is a 1-year position (May to May) allowing one to gain experience in the zoological field.  Job duties include feeding, cleaning, diet preparation, light maintenance, etc.  This position requires a motivated person with a degree in biology/zoology or comparable science degree and some experience with a related organization.  Housing is provided and salary information is provided upon request.  Mail resume to Internship Coordinator, PO Box 2189, Glen Rose, TX 76043.
