Announcement Title: ASSISTANT NATURALIST GUIDE LTE Contact: Kathleen H Harris Location: DNR Peninsula Park, 9462 Shore Road, Fish Creek, WI 54212 Telephone Number: (920) 854-5976 Hourly Rate: $8.000 per hour, plus $0.45 per hour for evenings after 6 p.m. and $0.60 per hour for Saturday and Sunday work. Duration: Approximately May 15, 2005 to September 5, 2005 Job Description: Responsible for assisting one full-time natural resource educator in all aspects of program planning and delivery; staffing park nature center; independently leading children's nature programs; conducting public programs related to park geology, flora, fauna, maritime history, etc.; assisting with upgrading of nature center displays; routine maintenance of nature center and adjacent trail; and other duties as requested. Knowledge Required: Communication skills (public
speaking, writing, listening); ability to interact positively with park
visitors, staff and volunteers; basic understanding of environmental
concepts; specific knowledge of Door County and Peninsula State Park
helpful; basic understanding of educational methods and techniques related
to program planning and delivery. Ability to research for accurate
information; ability to organize, plan and evaluate interpretive nature
programs; operation of a personal computer; and dependability. TRAINING
AND EXPERIENCE: Past experience in conducting educational programs is
preferred. College students who are enrolled or have completed a natural
sciences and/or education program preferred. The candidate must be willing
to conduct programs for children and enjoy working with families.
