Captive Wildlife Internships |
|
The intern program in Captive Wildlife Management provides positions related to care and use of wild animals in public facilities. Most positions are at rehabilitation centers and at zoos. Many positions are located in Wisconsin, however a few positions may involve working in adjacent states (Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan) or in the northern prairie states (North & South Dakota). Most positions involve work during the summer (May through August) but some positions may be available for spring or fall semesters. Duration and rates of pay vary greatly depending on the agency and most involve a 12-14-week commitment. Some positions will require you to apply directly to the agency and others require you to apply to Dr. Ginnett. Check the job listings for application details. All students are required to register for 3 credits of Wildlife 381 during the summer and may register for additional credits of Wildlife 381 during the fall semester if the duration of the internship was sufficient to merit additional credits. Each student is required to initiate a project during the summer involving some aspect of the internship. During the fall semester, the student will write a paper in scientific format about the project. The deadline for final completion of this written project is the last day of the 6th week of fall semester. Please download the Intern Application form and FILL IN THE APPLICATION USING YOUR COMPUTER then e-mail your application to Dr. Ginnett (attach the word document) at tginnett@uwsp.edu. |
