        Overview for Water Internships

The intern program in Water Resources generally provides positions in Fisheries, Limnology, Water Chemistry, Watershed Management, Aquatic Toxicology and General Water Quality. The number and distribution of positions varies from year to year however the Fisheries and Limnology positions have historically been the most numerous. Most of the positions are located in WI, however a few positions may be located in surrounding states (eg. IL, MN, MI) or other locations in the US. Almost all positions are for work during the summer field season (mid-May through August). There may be a few positions available for the spring or fall semesters but these are generally rare. The duration and rate of pay varies widely depending on the agency, however most positions involve a 12-14 week commitment. All students are required to register for 3 credits of internship (Water 381) during the summer and 3 credits of Water 381we during the fall semester. Each student is required to complete a research project during the summer involving some aspect of the internship. During the fall semester the student will write a paper in scientific format about the project. The deadline for final completion of this paper is the last day of classes before Thanksgiving break. Each student will receive 3 credits of writing emphasis (in Water) for the paper and Water 483 - Limnology and Fisheries Research will be waived as a requirement for Limnology & Fisheries students.
