Natural Resources, Culture & Archeology of the Mayan World
Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and Belize

Students have the opportunity to learn about ancient Mayan ruins, explore unique natural resources, and gain insight into the local culture.
Program Highlights include:

Exploring the diverse natural resources of Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.

Visit tropical dry forests, rain forests, and tropical pine forests, and learn how they are being preserved and managed by indigenous peoples.

See major archeological sights of the Maya and learn how they subsisted on their resource base.

Venture into the clear blue waters of the Belize Cayes, home of the second largest barrier reef in the world!

Contrast ecotourism and mega tourist development.

Participants enroll for three credits of Natural Resources 479/679 International Environmental Studies Seminar, with credit audit or pass/fail option (same fee). No prerequisites. Graduate credits can be arranged at an additional cost.

$4050 - 4550 (tentative cost for 25 students) Includes airfare (Chicago-Cancun; Mexico-Belize City; Belize-Chicago), lectures, accommodations, most meals, in country transportation, entrance fees, receptions, UW-System health/travel insurance, 3 credits Wisconsin undergraduate tuition. Only $250 surcharge for non-residents, approximately $70 for Minnesota residents (with approved reciprocity)
Eligibility:
Winterim trip leaders consist of faculty in the College of Natural Resources.
