Jan Harms, Ph.D.

Biography


As Forestry Coordinator for the College of Natural Resources (CNR), University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), Jan Harms facilitates and coordinates the
activities of the Forestry Discipline within the College. He also chairs the McIntire Stennis Project Review Committee and manages the Forestry Advisory
Committee. As an Associate Professor of Forestry in the CNR, he instructs courses in Biometry, Forest Management and Finance, and Harvesting Systems. In
addition, Professor Harms advises students in the Forest Administration & Utilization field and consults in the areas of Forest Management, Strategic
Planning, and Decision Analysis.

A native of Chicago, Jan Harms has lived and worked in most of the major forested regions of the Continental United States including: the North Central,
Southeast, South Central, Rocky Mountains, and the Pacific Northwest. He has also worked on projects in British Columbia and Brazil. Prior to coming to UWSP,
Professor Harms spent 14 years employed in the forest products industry. During that time he held positions of Division Manager of Timberland Operations,
Division Manager of Strategic Planning and Business Services, Manager of Strategic Planning, Forestry Manager, Forest Economist, and Forestry Researcher. As
Division Manager of Timberland Operations he was responsible for 1.1 million acres of timberland in Louisiana and Mississippi.
