Developing Personal GoalsPurposeParticipants in the Woodland Leadership Institute and the Master Woodland Steward Program are required to develop personal goals outlining how graduates will use what they have learned to address real issues in their community. Each program is designed to help participants develop these goals through the seminars, reference materials, observations and interviews of your community, and the sharing of ideas and feedback from classmates.
One of the major benefits of the Program is that it provides participants with the opportunity to meet other woodland owners and share ideas and information about management strategies in a fun and educational setting. Through this process the program will equip you to work in their community as a model and resource for the sustainable management of forestlands.
Some examples of action plans from our program graduates...
Creating educational opportunities on woodland property targeting elementary school students, Boys Scouts, and adults.
Working with a local newspaper to produce a series of monthly articles, interviews with local experts, that would take landowners through the process of developing a management plan for their property.
Working with neighboring forest landowners to develop management plans for their properties.
Creating a woodland Management board game for use in local elementary schools
Developing a Woodland Management course at WITC
Graduates of both programs are currently involved in woodland owners organizations either in the development of new Chapters or in Leadership roles.
