In the organic section of the lab Bill DeVita , lab manager, trains students using analytical techniques for analyses.   Students will learn to work on analytical instrumentation such as:

   Varian Saturan 2000 Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer with the Saturn System software package. This state-of-the-art mass spectrometer can be used for a wide array of organic compounds such as PCBs, PAHs, and pesticides.

   Tekmar ALS 2000/2016 Purge and Trap system with a Varian 3400 gas chromatograph equipped with Hall electrolytic conductivity, photoionization, and flame ionization detectors.

   Hewlett-Packard 5890 Series II gas chromatograph equipped with nitrogen/phosphorous and flame ionization detectors.

   Hewlett-Packard ChemStation software is a widely used PC based chromatography software package which allows for analysis of data generated by gas chromatographs.

   Varian 3400 gas chromatograph equipped with a electron capture detector and a thermionic specific detector.

   Agilent 1100 High Performance Liquid Chromatograph equipped with a diode array detector used to test for pesticide metabolites.
