     Just a few ideas...

Flex Your Writing Muscles      The most important part to reaching the goal of promoting and supporting EE in Wisconsin is the help from volunteers across the state.  Specifically, we have to recognize the importance influence local and state level officials have in the amount EE in Wisconsin schools.

One very imperative method to increase support for EE in Wisconsin is through contacting your elected officials.  For example, you can write...

  • Your school board members about the level of EE in your community.
  • Your state representative about increasing financial support for EE.
  • The Governor and ask him for support for EE by including the salary for the EE Specialist in the Department of Public Instruction in the next state budget.
  • The State Superintendent of Public Instruction and ask her to make EE a priority.  You can also ask her to include the salary for the EE Specialist in the Department of Public Instruction in the budget.

The contact information for state level officials listed above is available via the internet...just search the State of Wisconsin web page!

Another important strategy you can use to help increase support for EE in Wisconsin is through write letters to the editor or articles about EE in your schools.  Highlighting quality EE in your community will benefit the status of EE in your schools.

Outdoor Sites      Many schools are beginning to develop outdoor sites on the school grounds.  You could work with your school in development.  There are many excellent web sites and resources that offer help in planning and funding outdoor sites. These include:
Skills Building      You can help educators develop skills needed for EE.  If you are comfortable leading a group of students on a field trip or nature walk, volunteer at your school.  You can offer to help other teachers develop a knowledge base of native, local plants, insects, and animals as well as the confidence in their ability.  You can volunteer to teach students as well as educators, such as building bat houses to hang in the school yard.

Field Trips      Volunteer to chaperon school field trips.  You can also suggest potential activities to educators; they are always looking for new ideas to aid in instruction.

Grant Writing      You can also help increase EE in your community by applying for grants.  Funding sources include:
