The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point College of Natural Resources offers a wide variety of courses dealing with Environmental Education, Interpretation, and related fields.  Students receive background information and theory, and have many opportunities for hands-on experience and practical application both within and outside the classroom.  

The following list identifies NRES classes that specifically focus on Environmental Education or Interpretation.  Other related classes can be found in the CatalogUndergraduate level courses have course numbers between 100-499.  Graduate level courses have numbers from 500-799.  Some courses accept students from both undergraduate and graduate programs, and these are denoted with a slash between the course numbers.

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point also offers the unique opportunity to put your environmental education and interpretation skills into practice at three field stations:  CWES, Schmeeckle Reserve, and Treehaven

Description Prepare natural resources specialists for involvement with various publics, including governmental agencies, boards, and committees, professional associations, and environmental societies; identify public relations techniques and methods of evaluating public input that are used by resource professionals.

Description Skills for interpreting a park or other recreational site to visitors. Practice in preparing and presenting interpretive talks and walks.

Description Principles and verbal techniques to relate the values of natural history and cultural features to visitors at parks, recreation areas, museums, and other institutions; walks, talks, and programming.

Course Title INTERPRETIVE MEDIA
Description Principles and practice of design, writing and production of interpretive publications, trail and wayside interpretive panels, and exhibits for parks, nature centers and other facilities. Laboratory includes desktop publishing and other digital technologies used to create interpretive media.

Course Title INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Description Natural, social, and economic factors influencing the quality of our environment; ecological relationships and principles and their relation to population growth, pollution, resource allocation and depletion, conservation, technology, and urban and rural planning. Presents an overview of K-12 environmental ed content and methods. Fulfills Wisconsin teacher certification requirements in environmental ed. Not open to CNR majors/minors.

Course Title ENVIRONMENTAL INTERPRETATION PRACTICUM
Description Practice planning and implementing interpretation programs, facilities, signage, exhibits, and publications for nature centers and park visitors. One 6-hr day per wk at Schmeeckle Reserve.

Course Title ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PRACTICUM
Description Practical experience in environmental ed with K-12 school students. Emphasizes program and staff development, program planning, instruction and evaluation. One full day per week.

Description Supervised training program in resource management in cooperation with private or public resource agencies.

Course Title YOUTH AGENCY ADMINISTRATION
Description Survey of youth agencies including purpose, historic background, community role, development, and organization; analysis of administrative structure, programming, management, policy and volunteering board development, career opportunities, and current and future issues confronting nonprofit youth agencies.

Description Practical experience in environmental education and interpretation in planning and implementing programs for K-12 school groups, public programs for visitor and nature centers, and nonpersonal interpretive services. Meets Monday through Friday with some weekend activities.
