College of Natural Resources Scholarships

Scholarship applications for currently enrolled CNR students are available online during the month of October. These scholarships are awarded in the spring at the CNR Rendezvous scholarship program.

Scholarship awards are applied to general tuition costs, summer programs, such as Treehaven and Europe summer camp, and research.

     Member of Soil & Water Conservation Society. Award will be based
     on 50% leadership, 20% academic, 30% conservation and leadership

     Student with an interest in waterfowl, wildlife or law enforcement.  
   
Jerry Neinke Memorial Scholarship          $500  
     Water Resources student, Water Chemistry/Aquatic Toxicology
     student preferred.
 
   
Jody Frie Memorial Scholarship          $500  
     Water Resources student, Water Chemistry / Aquatic Toxicology

     At least junior status, primary preference to qualified candidates
     graduating from a high school in Clark or Jackson counties or, if no

     Student involved in undergraduate research, chosen by

     Wisconsin resident, prefer big game management, no anti-Hunters,

     Must be an active member of the Izaak Walton League student chapter

Henry C. Kurtz Forestry Scholarship          $500 for 2 students  
     Junior or senior forestry major with 2.75 GPA.  
   
Lake Lawrence Property Owners          $200  
     Continuing sophomore, junior, or senior or planning to attend
     graduate school.
 
   
Little Plover River Water Resources Scholarship          $200  
     Water Resources major (non-fisheries).  
   
Long Lake Fishing Club          $500  
     Students must submit a 500 word essay on the following topic:
     "The effects, prevention and elimination of Curly Leaf Pondweed
     on inland lakes.” Deadline January 31, 2008. SEPARATE APPLICATION.
 
   
Madison Fishing Expo Scholarship          $1,000 for 2 students  
     Junior or senior standing with a major in the water resources field,
     Wisconsin resident with a “B” average or better, and preference to
     candidate raised in Dane County, WI; or if none meet these criteria,
     preference would go to candidates from counties adjacent to Dane County,
     Financial need.
 
   
Jack Massopust Memorial Scholarship          $1,000  
     Scholarship to graduate student in wildlife (Wisconsin resident preferred).  
   
Milwaukee Casting Club          $500  
     Junior or senior residing in Milwaukee or surrounding county,
     Must have hunter education certificate - no anti-hunters.
 
   
Arthur W. Mueller, Jr. Sophomore Scholarship          $1,000 for 7 students  
     3.0 GPA (based on 30 semester hours at UWSP), financial need, CNR Major.  
   
Arthur W. Mueller, Jr. Junior/Senior Scholarship          $1,000 for 8 students  
     Junior or senior, 3.0 GPA, Financial need, where financial need is equal,
     preference to a student with a minor dependent child or children.
 
   
Erik Munson Graduate Research Scholarship          $500  
     Graduate student in Wildlife – project must concern some aspect
     of non-game avian wildlife .
 
   
Muskie Clubs Alliance of Wisconsin Inc. Scholarship          $500 for 3 students  
     Graduate Fisheries Major & WI Resident

     High academic achievement, student involvement, extraordinary financial need.

     Award to CNR major with 2.5 GPA and financial need.  
   
Portage County Wildlife Club          $500 for 5 students
     Portage County resident preferred with financial need,
     grad or undergrad. (Scholarship continues through their graduation).
 
   
Jay Reed Conservation Scholarship          $500  
     Preference for students who are residents of Wisconsin, studying fisheries,
     wildlife management or environmental law enforcement. Selection based on
     academic performance, extracurricular involvement and financial need.
 
   
Rod and Gun Club          $500  
     Rock County resident.  
   
Nancy B. Ross Women and the Environment Scholarship          $1,000  
     CNR Student with interest in Women and the Environment.  
   
Phil Sander Memorial Undergraduate Conservation Scholarship          $1,000  
     Junior or Senior Natural Resources Major, preference for students from the following
     counties; Kenosha, Racine, Walworth, Waukesha, Jefferson, and Milwaukee.
 
   
Safari Club International - Wisconsin Chapter          $1,000 for 2 students  
     Forestry, Wildlife, Graduate or Environmental Law Enforcement student,
     2.5 GPA, active in student/community organizations, traditional view of wildlife
     and other resource management, hunters.
 
   
Safari Club International - Badgerland Chapter           $1,000 for 2 students  
     Wildlife major, no anti-hunters, junior or senior, 2.75 GPA, financial need
     very important, Wisconsin resident. If no one is qualified, then award to
     a graduate student.
 
   
Mark and Eva Schroeder          $900 for 2 students  
     Student who is actively involved in the UWSP fire crew and intends
     to continue a career in fire management.

     Junior or senior, 2.75 GPA, any major, preference for Waupaca, Shawano,
     Calumet, Winnebago, or Outagamie County resident.

     Preference for students working in the WEAL Lab.  
   
Martha E. Sorensen Outstanding Awards          $1,000 for 3 students  
     Scholarships for an outstanding Sophomore, Junior, and Senior student.  
   
Southern Brown County Conservation Club Scholarship          $500 for 2 students  
     Freshman-Junior, from Brown County or surrounding counties.  
   
Douglas R. Stephens Scholarship          $5,300 (or full tuition for one year)

     Junior or senior that has one full year remaining, wildlife major.

     Forestry faculty and SAF Chapter select.

     Recipient must be a graduate of Tomahawk, Rhinelander or
     Lakeland Union High School - preference for B average, may be repeat winner.
 
   
Trout Unlimited - Antigo Chapter - James Smith Memorial          $500  
     Student must be from Langlade County with a preference for Water majors.  
   
Trout Unlimited - Wayne Larson Memorial          $500  
     Fisheries major.

     Junior or senior fisheries major.  
   
Trout Unlimited - Waupaca or Shawano County          $1,000  
     One student from Waupaca or Shawano counties or $500 for 2 students from
     surrounding counties. Preference for Waupaca or Shawano counties, if none from
     these counties, then select from surrounding counties. Must be junior status and
     majoring in water, 2.8 GPA.

     Fisheries (Freshwater), good academic standing, WI Resident, must have
     attended Summer Camp, Involvement in Fisheries Society.
 
   
Walleyes for Tomorrow          $1,000 for 2 students  
     Junior, Senior or graduate student majoring in Fisheries.  
   
Walleye Unlimited USA Scholarship          $2,000  
     Fisheries major with financial need.  
   
Waterfowl (USA) LTD. Southern Wisconsin Chapter          $500  
     Junior or Senior in waterfowl and dedicated to waterfowl management
     Jefferson, Rock, or Dane Counties students only, high GPA.
 
   
Waukesha County Conservation Alliance          $1,000  
     Sophomore or junior from Waukesha County.  
   
Whitetails Unlimited          $500 for 2 students  
     Wildlife major.  
   
Whitetails Unlimited - Marshfield Chapter          $1,000  
     Wisconsin resident with preference for a Central Wisconsin resident.

     Candidate must be junior status as of January. 3.0 GPA. Financial need important
     any discipline. Previous year’s recipient receives additional $500 the following
     year in January upon forwarding transcripts.
