GENERAL ACADEMIC INFORMATION

Pulpcut 2006 NEW
NRES 405 � Pulpcut, a basic chainsaw safety and handling course will again be offered this Fall. It is a one-credit, pass/fail course which introduces students to proper safety techniques in the operation of chain saws. No previous experience is required and all equipment is provided. The class is limited to 120 students. Each student is required to attend one of two preliminary safety training sessions and to participate for two days, selected from six weekends, beginning Sept. 15. Preliminary sign-up for Pulpcut will occur Sept. 4-12, in CNR 180. Students wanting to participate in the class for a second time should sign up as �Supervisors�. Final registration of participants will occur following the preliminary safety sessions. All participants must attend one of the two preliminary safety sessions on Sept. 12 or 13, 6-8 pm, CNR 120. Sign-up is on a first come basis, so don�t delay! For further information, contact Mike Demchik, 295-8910, mdemchik@uwsp.edu

Student Success Center Hours
Sue's walk-in hours: Tuesday 1-2:30pm; Wed. and Thurs. from 10:00-11:30am. The CNR Student Success Center (CNR 180) is open Mon.-Fri. 8-4:30pm.

!Application To The CNR
Students who have completed 45 cr. and have a 2.00 GPA in major must apply for formal acceptance into the College of Natural Resources. Application forms are available in the CNR Student Success Center (CNR 180). The deadline for applications is Sept. 28.

DROP/ADD Procedures

Students can drop or add a class until Sept. 13 on-line without any signatures, unless the class/section is closed or permission required.

New Majors NEW
New majors in Resource Management: Law Enforcement and Resource Management: Policy are now available. Stop by CNR 180 to add these majors or to pick up the planning sheets.

The Society of American Foresters are excited to start off another semester! There are lots of things going on including the Involvement Fair, a softball tournament, and who can forget Pulpcut? We look forward to seeing all of the old members as well as TONS of new students next Thurs. Sept. 13 in CNR 170 at 5pm. If you can�t make it to the first meeting, feel free to stop by the office any time to meet the officers as well as current members!

Sustainable Agriculture in Communities Society

Stop by on Tuesdays from 3-6pm at the Campus garden across from the fire station to get fresh produce. We have all kinds of goodies including tomatoes, peppers, garlic, and eggplant. We will have meetings at the garden at 7:30pm on Tuesdays or CPS 234 if it rains. A lot of cool projects will be going on so check us out.

WORKSHOP/ACTIVITY INFORMATION

Resume Workshops NEW
Fall resume workshops have been scheduled for the following dates and times. Workshops are open to all CNR and science majors and are free of charge. Here are the workshop sessions:

Workshops will be held in CNR 120 from 7 to 9 PM. All sessions are identical in content, so students need to attend only one program. Signup is NOT required. Make sure that you do not miss these outstanding opportunities.

Aldo Leopold Legacy Center Planting Day NEW
Approximately 7,000 plant plugs must be planted. It is this Sat. Sept. 8, 9am-5pm with a social hour to follow. A tour of the Leopold Shack will occur at 1pm, followed by a tour of the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center at 3pm.

Furbearer Ecology Workshop NEW

Mushrooming in the Northwoods: An introduction
Is it a mushroom or a toadstool? Get this question answered by attending one of these seminars to learn the basics of mushroom collecting and identification!  Seminars include both classroom and field teaching. Each week during the season offers new opportunities as different fungi fruit are available at different times

Wisconsin Green Industry Federation (WGIF) Scholarship NEW

Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters� Conference Wildlife Research Scholarship NEW
There is a newly-established Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters� Conference Wildlife Research Scholarship for CNR undergraduate students. The 2007 grant award will be $500 and will be given to a project that demonstrates the greatest potential for enhancing or promoting the future of healthy waterfowl populations and habitat in Wisconsin.

Applicants should submit a 1-page proposal to Dr. Eric Anderson that includes: 1) Project description/overview (e.g., problem/need and goal); 2) Project steps and timeline; and 3) Estimated project cost / budget. Awardee(s) will be chosen by WWHC representatives and must present their project results, progress or plans at the annual Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters� Conference in spring of 2008. Deadline for applying is Sept. 28.
