Traveling to Stevens Point

The nearest airport is Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA), also referred to as Wausau Airport. This airport is about 15 miles north of Stevens Point. The Country Springs Hotel, the venue for EMSU 2006, will provide free shuttle service for conference delegates who stay at the hotel and fly into CWA. Other airport destinations in the region include Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, about 200 miles west of Stevens Point; Chicago, Illinois, about 250 miles southeast; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, about 175 miles southeast. Field Trips

A field trip is included in conference registration at no additional cost. Field day is scheduled for Thursday of conference week and registrants are asked to select a first and alternate choice field trip. Itineraries are subject to change and some field trips may be canceled depending on the level of interest. Further detail on these excursions will be posted here as it is available so please check back often.

Field trip options include:

  • Sustainable forestry practices on the Menominee Indian Reservation: See how this Native American community manages its timber with future generations in mind.
  • Renewable energy applications in homes and businesses: Tour area residences and businesses built with the latest renewable energy applications.
  • Land use planning: Tour central Wisconsin counties to view examples of community planning results.
  • Native American culture and environmental education: Visit tribal communities and learn about their efforts to preserve traditional culture and the environment.
  • History of Wisconsin land ethics: Visit the "Shack" where famed conservationist Aldo Leopold worked and see other important sites.
