2006-07 Academic Year Theme: Sustainable Communities
The acclaimed GEM Critical Issues International Seminar Series returns for its third season during the 2006-07 academic year. Invited speakers, each experienced experts in their field, will discuss on-the-ground work to build sustainable communities. Drawing on first-hand experience in South Africa, Australia, Vietnam and other countries, these speakers will illuminate how efforts at the community level are succeeding in building a sustainable future.
All seminars are free and open to the public.
The inaugural season of the GEM Critical Issues International Seminar Series in 2004-2005 featured six renowned international speakers who addressed global security from an environmental perspective. During the 2005-2006 academic year, five speakers from Native American and overseas indigenous cultures discussed sustainability from the perspective of indigenous cultures' traditional knowledge, spirituality, community and health.
