Plan Commission Workshops

 
 

The Center for Land Use Education offers plan commission workshops serving multi-county areas of Wisconsin. Workshops are designed for newly appointed commissioners, veteran commissioners tackling complex issues, and professional educators and planners whose job it is to support local commissions.
Workshops may be arranged through your county Cooperative Extension office or directly through the Center for Land Use Education by contacting Rebecca Roberts at rroberts@uwsp.edu or 715-346-4322 or CLUE staff at 715-346-3783. Understanding Conditional Uses and Special Exceptions

Tuesday, September 30, Sauk County West Square Building, Baraboo, WI

Sauk County recently updated its zoning ordinance to assign review of conditional uses to the conservation, planning & zoning committee. Some uses are still reviewed by the zoning board of adjustment but are now called special exceptions. This workshop will help you understand the process for granting each of these uses. We encourage members of the county board, planning & zoning committee, and zoning board, and town boards and plan commissions to attend.

The workshops will focus on the roles and responsibilities of the plan commission with particular attention on day-to-day decisions such as rezones and conditional use permits.  Time will be provided to address local planning and zoning issues.

This series of programs is designed to keep local government officials up to date on local land use planning and zoning issues that affect their communities. Each session will be moderated by UW-Extension’s Local Government Center Staff and will provide ample opportunity for participant questions and comments. You will receive a packet of printed materials that will be referred to throughout the live teleconference program. The Center for Land Use Education is partnering with the Wisconsin Towns Association to offer four educational seminars aimed at town and small village officials. Participants will learn about the roles and responsibilities of the plan commission, recent updates to the comprehensive planning law, subdivision ordinances, and other land use controls.            Plan Commission Workshop

This workshop is designed for new and continuing plan commission members, local government officials, planning and zoning staff, and other interested persons. The workshop will focus on the roles and responsibilities of the plan commission and related procedural requirements. County staff will provide an update on shoreland zoning (NR 115) and farmland preservation.
