Wisconsin Regional Planning Commissions

Wisconsin has nine Regional Planning Commissions (RPCs). All but five counties in the state (Columbia, Dodge, Jefferson, Rock and Sauk) are served by an RPC.  RPCs are formed by executive order of the governor and provide intergovernmental planning and coordination for the physical, social and economic development of a region.  They may also provide data or consulting services for local units of government.

Wisconsin Metropolitan Planning Organizations

Wisconsin has 14 metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) that share responsibility for transportation planning in 17 metropolitan areas.  MPOs consist primarily of local elected officials who provide a forum for local decision-making on transportation issues of a regional nature. The federal government requires that an MPO be designated for each urbanized area with a population greater than 50,000.
