HRG-UCLCC’s Infant/Toddler Program offers children ages six months - two years old a safe, stimulating environment in which to grow and develop. Individuals are encouraged to develop according to their own unique abilities while relating to others. During the child’s first two years of life, they change and develop at a rapid pace. The skills they acquire during this time create the foundation of healthy development. The center offers children a developmentally appropriate environment to foster such development.

HRG-UCLCC Infant/Toddler center is open during the academic year 7:30am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday. If available in the summer; hours are 7:15 am-4:30 pm. The infant/toddler program is only offered during the academic school year and eight weeks of summer. Full-time care is only available at this time. The center is currently not accepting part-time infants and toddlers.

Eligibility

Students and faculty/staff of UWSP are eligible for childcare at the HRG-UCLCC Infant/Toddler Program. ONLY FULL-TIME SLOTS ARE AVAILABLE. Students of UWSP will be given first priority and up to three faculty/staff may enroll. Enrollment is at capacity with eight infant/toddlers.

The Facility

The HRG-UCLCC Infant/Toddler Program is located in Delzell Hall Lower Level along with the HRG-UCLCC Pre-School Program for children ages 2-10. The Infant/Toddler Program has two complete classrooms and a separate napping room designed specifically for the six-month to two-year old child. The Center is air-conditioned and the temperature of the Center is monitored by inside room thermometers. The Center and equipment, including toys, are cleaned and sanitized daily.

The Program

The Infant/Toddler Center activities emphasize social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. The program's goals include:

• Enhancing a child's self-concept
• Promoting socialization
• Fostering language development
• Development of motor coordination
• Play as a learning experience

Throughout each day, every infant/toddler is held, played with, talked to, rocked, sung to, taken on walks, and/or played outdoors (weather permitting). Daily routine activities such as eating, diapering/toileting, napping, and playing are on-demand scheduling. Young children learn at a fast pace. The activities provided at the Infant/Toddler Center are developmentally appropriate to meet the individual needs of the constant development of the young child. Each parent receives a daily note describing their child's activities throughout the day, including what the child has eaten and amount, diaper changes and naps (including times).

The Staff in the Infant/Toddler Center

The Infant/Toddler Center’s staff includes a full time infant/toddler teacher and one part-time assistant teacher certified with the State of Wisconsin, and several UWSP students work as teacher aides. All staff working with the infant/toddlers has had SIDS and Shaken Baby Syndrome training.
