Overview

Dr. Helen Godfrey founded the University Child Learning and Care Center (UCLCC), which opened in 1973. Students paid a whopping .50 cents per hour for our childcare services.

The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Student Body sponsors the UCLCC, providing high quality, reasonably priced (albeit, not .50 cents per hour) childcare. We are accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs and state licensed.

We offer several programs Infant/Toddler; 2 and 3 year pre-school and 4 year pre-kindergarten.

Children belong to groups according to their age. We have four groups:

The Starlight Group

The Starlight Group children range in age from 6 months to 2 years. The infants/toddlers participate in a variety of sensory experiences. The teacher to child ratios are kept low to ensure each child gets the attention they deserve. Parents and children benefit from daily feedback and communication with the staff. This program is developmental and nurturing.

The Bunny Group

The Bunny group children are 2 to 3 1/2 years old. In this group we practice self-help and social skills in the choice time setting. Children learn through play and begin to relate to teacher-directed activities.

Pre-school available 9-11:30 daily.

The Playhouse Group

The Playhouse Group children are 3 to 4 year olds. This group emphasizes partner and cooperative play to help build and improve social skills. Beginning preschool skills are introduced.

Pre-school available 9-11:45 daily.

The Rainbow Group

The Rainbow group is the final step of the HRG-UCLCC before the children begin kindergarten. Here school preparations are stressed in a developmentally appropriate environment (preschool program). Many hands-on learning activities are provided in the child-centered classroom. Field trips are more frequent and the children take part in a motor development program provided by the University's physical education students.

Pre-kindergarten available 9-12:15 daily.
