Chapter 6 Learning Goals

 

 

Upon completion of the chapter, the student should:

 

-           Understand the ideas of oxidation and reduction.

-           Know how to assign oxidation numbers to each atom in a formula.

-           Know how to balance equations in acidic or basic solution using the ion-electron method.

-           Be able to tell which acids are non-oxidizing and which are oxidizing in metal - acid reactions.

-           Know what single and double displacement reactions are.

-           Be able to perform stoichiometric calculations for redox reactions.
