Text Rental>

A unique service available to students at UWSP. It is a rental library system where students check out most of their course books and return them at end of the semester. (UWSP has been operating a "text rental" system since its beginning in 1894.)

Rental Rate>

The current rental rate, which is included in undergraduate student tuition, is $65.40 per semester. (September, 2006) Graduate students in slash courses have the opportunity to rent the book and are assessed rental fees at time of rental.

 Computer System>

UWSP Text Rental operates an "in-house" windows-based text rental computer system. Three CIS student employees programmed the system over a three year period and current student employees continue to maintain the system. C# is the development language.

We are "on-line" with the Records & Registration office to facilitate "real time" registration and student updates.

We interface with the academic departments who have "on-line" web access for submitting textbook requests.

Our system utilizes the AIS (Administrative Information Systems) servers on campus which house the campus Oracle database. AIS facilitates all back-ups and software upgrades.

Seven Dell Optiplex stations with 1 GHz Celeron processors which facilitate the check-out/check-in service during peak times. Each station has a 10 mb dedicated connection to the campus network for efficient data transfer.

One full time staff person. (Share Manager, Receiving, Accounts Payable with the UWSP University Store.)

About 15 Limited Term Employees help with distribution/return of rental books the first and last week of each semester.

Six student employees alternate operating the Text Rental area and University Store customer service desk for the remainder of the semester.

Two student computer analysts contribute to system maintenance for Text Rental and the University Store.
