| Text Rental |
> | Is a unique service available to students at UWSP. It is a rental library system where students check out most of their course books and return them at end of the semester. (UWSP has been operating a "text rental" system since its beginning in 1894.) |
| Rental Rate |
> | The current rental rate, which is included in the undergraduate student tuition, is $66.60 a semester. (September, 2009) Graduate students in slash courses have the opportunity to rent the book and are assessed fee at time of rental.
The cost of books and supplies for the academic year does not vary much from two-year to four-year institutions, or from public to private schools. The expense for books and supplies ranged from $745 to $843 in 2003-04 according to figures reported by The College Board. (Chronicle of Higher Education - August 27, 2004) |

Supplemental Books
for Student Purchase |

These needs may be met through the Supplemental Purchase Texts section of the University Store. |
Supplemental Book Purchase Limit |
> | Faculty shall observe a $50 limit on the cost of supplemental books a student is required to purchase for any one course. (Exceptions to the $50 maximum may be granted by the chair person of the instructor's department.) |
Desk or Teaching Faculty Book Copy |
> | Text Rental is a self-supporting service financed through student text rental fees paid in tuition. Teaching Faculty are required to obtain their own copy of the textbook needed for their course. (UWSP rental books are for student use.) |
Surplus Books For Sale |
> | Books no longer being used for a course, are sold to a wholesale book company if resale value exists. All others are available for student purchase on “sale tables” at reduced prices. (Prices in the $1-$5 range is a “build-your-personal-library opportunity for students”.) |
