Service Saturdays

Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.-Margaret Mead
Service Saturdays are a social, flexible, and rewarding way to make a concrete difference in our community without long-term, individual volunteering. With 2 - 4 hour volunteering increments and a range of different opportunities, from building with Habitat for Humanity to cooking dinner for the Salvation Army and cleaning up our area parks and Green Circle Trail, there is something for everyone to get involved, have some fun, meet other students from UWSP, and of course, help our community!

Care Packages for Soldiers on Family Day
November 7, 2009
Stop by the tables outside of the DeBot Dining Room between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. to show your appreciation for fellow students serving in the military. Make cards, color pictures, or write letters that will be sent over to current students who are deployed. These letters will be sent in a package from the university with other goodies from departments and student organizations. If you can't make it then, SIEO will be in the DUC concourse from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4th and Thursday, November 5th. Show them your support!
The highest reward for a person's work is not what they get for it,
but what they become because of it.- John Ruskin
FAQ
Are Service Saturdays different from volunteering independently? Is it better?
Service Saturdays are intended to be perfect for those students who don't have the time or resources available to volunteer on a regular basis with an area agency. Unlike volunteering with an agency one-on-one, Service Saturdays allows you to volunteer with a group of students in a relaxed setting.
Do we have to travel for Service Saturdays? If transportation or special accommodations are needed, please let SIEO know 72 hours prior to the event.
Do we need any special skills or tools? In some instances you will need proper clothing, such as when working outdoors. Other tools needed may be trash bags or rubber gloves which the SIEO office can supply.
The only special skill needed is to understand basic safety measures. Wear the right shoes, bring a jacket, and if you aren't sure how to do something, ask for help!
What if I decided at the last minute to bring my little sister and mom?The more the merrier, but if a child under the age of 18 is volunteering these waivers must be signed by the parent prior to volunteering.
