Finding A Job – QUEST Job Search

All instructions for gaining access to the UWSP Student Involvement and Employment’s QUEST Job Search can be found in Appendix F or on line at http://www.uwsp.edu/stuemploy under the Student Section.  Students can look for Work Study positions, Regular Pay positions, on and off campus positions, permanent part-time, one-time, and full-time summer positions.

Student Employee Rights

It is reasonable for student employees at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to expect:

  • To be treated fairly and equitably by your supervisor.

  • To know what is expected of you concerning your work schedule, actual duties, and any other requirements made by the supervisor.

  • To be informed about your work performance through verbal communication and performance evaluations.

  • To an explanation if you are terminated.

  •  To review your employment file including department evaluations.

  • To use your campus jobs as references for future employers and/or credit institutions

  • To be paid in a timely manner.

  • To be made aware of health and safety issues related to your role in the organization.

Employee Responsibilities

All employers, whether on or off campus, hold basic expectations of their student employees.  Speak with your employer to learn of specific expectations that may extend past the following.

  • You are expected to maintain high standards of behavior on the job that reflect well on both you and the University.
  • You are to perform assigned duties promptly and with care.
  • You are to exercise good judgment and show courtesy to fellow employees, employers, and the general public.
  • You are expected to maintain an appropriate appearance and to conduct yourself in a business-like manner while on the job.   Discuss any questions on attire and grooming with your supervisor.
  • Inappropriate dress or lack of personal hygiene which adversely affects proper performance of duties or constitutes a health or safety hazard is prohibited.
  • You are expected to report promptly at your scheduled time and work for the required period of time.
  • Please notify your supervisor if you are unable to meet your scheduled hours. Give sufficient advance notice when possible as well as work  to find a replacement if necessary.

Time Cards

The Time Card is a legal document.  Hours recorded on the Time Card and signed by both the student and the supervisor are official information and must accurately reflect hours worked by the student.  It is a State offense for a student or employer to record hours not actually worked.

Ending Employment

Student employees who find their job conditions unsatisfactory or who want to change jobs  (perhaps to work in a career-related area) should, out of courtesy and equity,  give their current employer at least one week's notice.

W-2 Statement

W-2 Statements are to be made available to students before January 30 of each year.   W-2 Statements are mailed to the student's most recent home address recorded in the Office of Registration and Records, 101 SSC.  For wages subject to withholding, refunds can be obtained only by filing state and federal income tax returns.  All wages are subject to taxing.

W-4 Form

The W-4 Form is required by the Internal Revenue Service for withholding  state and federal  taxes.  Every student must have a W-4 filed in the Student Payroll Office, 133 Old Main, before a Time Card will be issued.
